Evidence of effective communication
both verbal and non-verbal
In the gallery below are a series of images showing various aspects of my communication within my classroom.
Communication is a two-way street. My ability to build strong rapport with my students helps to create effective communication in our classroom. As I respect my students as expert learners I encourage them to provide me with feedback throughout my teaching. Discussion is critical to learning in that it promotes deeper thinking, in order to present your ideas etc.
Effective feedback is a skill that takes practice. It needs to be timely, applicable and fair. While giving feedback is one of my strengths I am still working on providing refined feedback in my practice.
In keeping with the 8 ways model and Inquiry learning principles I also believe it is important to create space for non-verbal communicaton and for silence. Human brains need time to process. 21st century learners need to develop reflective skills too.
As demonstrated below I use a variety of strategies to encourage strong, clear and robust communication among our learning community.

Clear rubrics help students know what is expected of them in an assessment. They do make communication simple, although sometimes the existence of the rubric results in students limiting themselves to 'ticking the boxes'
